Simon House, 1980/1981
These are pictures of Oxford Cyrenian's
Simon House Nightshelter and the pretty extraordinary people
who lived and worked there, taken during 1980 and 1981
when I was a voluntary worker there.
Most of these pictures are from 1981, after we moved from the Old House to a new, £1,000,000 purpose-built house in Paradise Street,
right next to Oxford Jail. I'd never seen so much technology, especially in the kitchen which had just a fantastic collection
of new toys, like automatic potato peelers (who thought of those?).
The New Simon House, early 1981. I think this was taken before it actually opened.
Claire in the new house Dry End lounge (in my wooly M&Sjumper)

Claire and
me
(doing my best Gerry Adams impression), new house reception, May 1981
Simon Cook and Claire, new house reception, early 1981. Simon
was the team leader at the time. Nowadays, he works at a
Steiner School
and as a marriage counsellor and concilliator.
Eddie Lawson, also in the Dry End lounge. Where are you?
Tom Hawskley and Estelle, 1981. Tom went on to work for Christain charities
in Iran, and as a schoolteacher, and he organised our recent renunion.
